PRC notes that should these new utilities fail, it is unclear who is responsible for "keeping the lights on".

Senate Bill 165 is being heard at the Capitol tomorrow in Senate Conservation. We are opposing Senate Bill 165, which contains language that will directly affect utility workers and New Mexico rate payers purchasing power from coops or utilities. "It is worth noting that if existing electric utilities that are asked to provide metering, billing, collection, and customer service for local utilities, rates for the remaining customers will almost certainly increase".
