For the Search Efforts of Deano Valdez
🚨 Search & Rescue Volunteer Safety Guidelines 🚨
The safety of every volunteer is our #1 priority. Please follow these instructions at all times.
✅ What To Do:
- Check In: Contact Monique (505-362-4738) or Alex (505-692-3965) before and after your search or DM me.
This ensures the team can track covered areas and direct you to unexplored locations. - Use the Buddy System: Always travel in pairs or groups. No one should search alone.
- Stay Aware: Watch your surroundings carefully—wildlife, unstable ground, steep terrain, and weather changes can all pose risks.
- Share Your Plan: Tell someone where you are going, your planned route, and when you’ll be back.
- Handle Findings Properly: If you see something of concern (clothing, personal items, evidence), do not move it without gloves. Mark the location (GPS pin, flagging tape, or photo of surroundings) and notify the team immediately.
- Stay Hydrated & Rested: Take breaks, drink water, and don’t push yourself to exhaustion.
- Respect Private Property: Get permission before entering restricted land or ranches.
🚫 What Not To Do:
- Do not search alone or without notifying the team.
- Do not touch suspicious items with bare hands—take picture, use gloves and seal in a bag, or wait for trained personnel to get it.
- Do not spread unverified information—report only what you directly observe to those in lead.
- Do not wander off marked search areas—stick to the assigned zone to avoid confusion or duplication.
- Do not endanger yourself (e.g., entering mines, unstable structures, deep water, or steep cliffs).
- DO NOT chase anyone, by car or by foot.

Our goal is to bring Deano home, but we must protect each other while we search. We will let everyone know when the next search date will be! Until then be safe, stay vigilant. If you see something, say something!
